Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28 1967 and was the child of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. The fourth generation of the Roberts generation that has lived in Atlanta, beginning with her great-grandfather, a farmer John Pendleton Roberts. In the early years, her father began to take an interest in theater. When he was a student at Emory University in 1952 he acted in productions on campus as well as in other parts of Atlanta. He joined the military in the year 1953. While being stationed at Biloxi Mississippi, was a part of the military's production, which featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was also in the air force. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their first baby son Eric Anthony, was born in 1956. Walter and his wife resigned from the military in the year 1957 after which they began enrolment with Walter at Tulane University. Walter started his work at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. The year 1964 was when Walter and Betty Lou began production on the local Saturday morning children's TV show titled Bum Bum and His Buddies which they funded by themselves. In 1964, Betty Lou and Walter established The Actors and Writers Workshop. The workshop lasted six years. They also had two other kids Lelisa (called Lisa) Billingsley in 1965 and Julia (called Julie) in 1967.
